THE TRAILBLAZER
Ok, time to say yarrrrhar to Indonesian surfer Flora Christin, pictured in Sri Lanka by Saajid Luenzo. Originally from North Sumatra, Flora moved to Canggu (rice field era) and rode her first wave at 25 - a year later she turned pro. Flora's surfing has an undeniable elegance, but it's her persistently jolly approach that's puts her above the rest. In a country dominated by conservative values, Flora's path hasn't been an easy one, she says that "being a surfer isn't an accepted career choice for women in Indo." But like all of the great trailblazers before her, Flora doesn't let the negativity get to her, "A smile is a passport to a better place. I hope to see more of them in the lineup, and on land." Aye aye Flora - hearing that! Show some love to Flora through her IG.

WALK THE PLANK - AVOID THE SHARKS
If you're interested in finding some archipelagold in Indo this year, bunk in the plush rooms at Ayok Stay & Surf, and hire he who sprays faux-pirates when they abandon ship at Tugu, to be your surf coach. Captain Ayok'll teach you how to avoid the sharks i.e. not fall, when you walk the plank - a priceless piece of archipelagold, indeed.

FACE THE GALLOWS WITH ANÄIS PIERQUET
"We're not responsible for our traumas, but we are responsible for our healing..." Anaïs Pierquet may be about the most heartfelt pirate to have ever faced the gallows. Her new short film, 'Surrender' is an intimate and hopeful take on grief - proof that a positive mindset can be won back one wave at a time. Have a watch, it'll put the wind in your sails - yarrr!

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Bad Things Come in Three was pirated by NobodySurf and released onto the interwebs a few weeks back. It's the first footage we've seen of the Big Dreams (board on the left below) in the big, open-faced conditions it was designed for. The video, shot in pumping surf in Indonesia, is available to view HERE.

SWINDLE SURFBOARDS WITH ZAN
Before making the journey back to whatever hidden cove you sailed out of, I present to you our last Jolly Roger toting, rum drinking pirate: Septian Fauzan - the Thomas Bali shop manager. On top of ruling Bali piracy with his gigantic lord sword, Zan's managed to swindle himself a shop full of Thomas boards - which can now be viewed and purchased online HERE. Whether you're after the spoils of piracy, or the spoils of this here surfboard factory, drop Zan a line.

AND THAT'S NOT QUITE ALL, FOLKS
On the slight chance that you've actually read this far, we should probably note that this issue's nonsensical/piratized approach is owed to the fact that I watched Pirates of the Caribbean yesterday. As a result, "I think we've all arrived at a very special place. Spiritually, ecumenically, grammatically."
